msleniMseleni Children’s Home provides the special care needed for children who have been abused or abandoned, and seeks to help them deal with problems arising out of the abuse. The aim is to raise the children in the love and discipline of the Lord in such a way that each child grows as much as she/he is able in every way (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually).

Up to 46 children have been living at Mseleni Children’s Home in “cottage units” with 24 hour child care provided by trained Christian children’s workers.

All children attend school and also therapy workshops to enable them to deal positively with trauma, and to develop a sense of self-esteem and self-worth.msleni1

There is an active reunification programme to place children back into their communities where this is in the best interests of the child.

The home also provides care for children with physical disabilities as term-time boarders in order to allow them to attend school.

In July 2015, the home was hit by a tragedy when a fire in one of the houses claimed the life of a child and a member of staff who was trying to rescue that child.  Following this, the South African government requested that the home be closed temporarily pending investigations and a report.  By God’s grace, the children were all able to be placed into foster care or other children’s homes and the hope is to use this time to upgrade the buildings and to further train and develop the staff.  The project is therefore very much still “live” and ongoing donations are much valued.
