Lulisandla Kumntwana (Reach out to the Child) is a community based outreach project of the Mseleni Children’s Home working with orphans, vulnerable children and disadvantaged young people in the Mseleni area.
Lulisandla Kumntwana aims to share the love of Christ with orphans & vulnerable children and their families responding to the Biblical instruction to care for the poor and needy, in particular James 1:27, to visit orphans in their distress. In particular, the project seeks to encourage and to work alongside Christians and local churches to see the need of orphans and vulnerable children, and to support and to facilitate them in their efforts to fulfil the call of the Lord to minister to them.
Through the work of Lulisandla Kumntwana many hundreds of children have been placed in foster care. Each year over 1000 children attend psycho-social support workshops, where they are taught life-skills, helped to deal with emotional trauma and hear the gospel proclaimed. Training workshops in Biblically-based parenting skills are provided for foster parents. Several thousand children and young people and their families are impacted each year by the work of Lulisandla Kumntwana. About 50 Family Support Teams of Christians from local churches reach out to the orphan families living near them, providing practical, emotional and spiritual care.
The Life Skills Training programme provides a month long course for young people aiming to motivate and equip them with a purpose for their life and provide them with the skills to pursue employment or further training.
After School Clubs provide children with homework, games, crafts and life skills training.
